Steve Aoki's Weekly Tirade

there's something really amazing about this party at cinespace on tuesdays that we've been doing for the last almost 3 years that defies every lame thing that exists in LA. Hollywood is a very weird place... and can change people faster than most cities, at least from my knowledge, and not in the best ways either. dont get me wrong i love living here. i work here, in the day, at night, i live in the center of it and i love it. and honestly its because of this party that we throw on tuesdays and this new party that cobrasnake, dj am and i created for another "no bottle service" "no cologneheads" party that tries to bring back some SOUL into why we are doing the things we are doing, playing out the songs we are playing, and ultimately creating a world we want to be part of and make fucking awesome. i hate hearing other people give pep talks like this but i just want to give back to all the rad people that come to tuesdays and now sundays and are down to hear new music and new bands and make this thing we have really special. thank you.

starting it all off at our the dim mak cinespace tuesdays party and this one was super duper special for us because our newest signees Whitey performed their live show which was absolutely fucking stunning! Incredible! I adore this artist and have been a major fan of Whitey for a long time coming and now they came, all over everyone..

lets start it out with sexy time dora who is our supermodel postergirl of dim mak collection.

Back in the late '90s, my very first email address was an AOL account. 15 years later and I'm back, but not with an account but a whole section on Spinner.com. I'm going to include pics from all the different cities I'll be traveling to, some video clips from my L.A. residencies at cinespace tuesdays and banana split sundaes with DJ AM, podcasts, mixes and the latest and greatest from our very own Dim Mak records and Dim Mak collection. It's gonna be jam packed and full of surprises. Pretty exciting stuff. To give back as well, Dim Mak does contests around certain shows like Bloc Party, the Rapture, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, in the past giving away tickets, etc., so that will be added into this little weekly tirade of info. Thanks for checking this shit out and see you soon.

Keep reading for my playlist, photos and more. Don't forget to send me your mix for the Next On the Decks 2 contest.

Steve Aoki.

I keep hearing about this Pancake Mountain children's show, but I have yet to see an entire episode. A friend once excitedly emailed me after her first viewing, describing it as, "A show where hilarious kids dance around to real bands. And sometimes there are puppets." Well, like an idiot I kept neglecting it, until today when PFork posted this lovely clip of Ms. Jenny Lewis shakin' her sequin mini-dress for some small children.

Judging by this clip alone, Pancake Mountain is clearly an awesome show that we should all be watching.
Sometimes Swiss designer Stephane Barbier Bouvet makes sweet things, like birdhouses with cookies inside of them, but sometimes he also likes to make ashtrays out of human skulls. Scroll down to the third item here to learn more about these "limited edition" human bone ashtrays, pencil-holders and photo stands. Act soon -- he only has 7 of them to spare, and no, he does not explain how he got them.

Karen Oh-How-She-Loves 'Project Runway'

Miss Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Karen O, sure loves herself some 'Project Runway.' She spoke with our news folks recently, professing her infatuation with the show and is clearly dying for the finale.
"The suspense is killing me," she groans down the phone to AOL Music. "I watch it with my friends. We're very into the dramatic highs and lows, the sadism that goes on [and] how mean everyone is to each other."
In fact she's so down with the show it looks like there's a chance she'll make a guest appearance at some point.
"Actually, they've approached me a couple of times, but nothing really happened. Maybe if we get all the AOL readers to push behind it, [it will happen]," she laughs.
C'mon AOL readers, get on it. As you can clearly tell from the above photo, she has a keen eye for fashion. Read the whole story here.

Pete Doherty: Addicted to Fashion

Fresh out of rehab, reunited with his lady love Kate Moss and back from his little sojourn to the syringe store, our beloved Pete Doherty (that's DOCK-erty to you) is set to model and design clothing. This gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "heroin chic."

Stay tuned for more, because you know we are way too Doherty-obsessed not to follow this story like a crackhead itching for a fix. A sex tape seems like the next logical step in this ongoing saga.

The Rakes Hate Animal Cruelty, Burberry

Don't EVEN try to get the Rakes to stand for animal cruelty. The band has turned down an advertising offer from Burberry due to the use of fur in their designs. Vegan frontman Alan Donohoe lashed out at the fashion house in a stern letter. "By designing in fur, Burberry is supporting one of the most violent industries on the planet, and the Rakes won't be associated with that."

The letter goes on to graphically illustrate their point. "Burberry has always touted itself as a fashion leader, but there's nothing 'fashionable' about drowning animals to death or electrocuting or strangling them on fur farms for their coats." Cringe-worthy use of an almost-pun aside, it's great to see a band that stands for something.

Stars, CYHSY, Devendra Are Charitable

Stars, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Devendra Banhart and other indie do-gooders have designed T-shirts for the charity organization Yellow Bird Project. The shirts are only 25 bucks and union-made by American Apparel! Yay! All proceeds from each shirt will go to the charity of the designing artist's choice.

The Stars shirt is by far my favorite, as it features a sleeping tiger wearing headphones. ADORABLE!

Jack White: Fashion Icon

The Raconteurs have done their part to support NY's fashion week by giving a performance at the Prada store in Soho for the likes of Liv Tyler, Anna Wintour, a bevvy of supermodels (including Jack White's model wife, Karen Elson) and... Wolfmother's Andrew Stockdale.

I like the idea of a bunch of dudes who are about as glamorous as a halfway house communal toilet hobnobbing with the fashion elite. I just like it, that's all.
